DIY projects using ePaper displays have become pretty common recently. E Ink fans will create their own projects to fill a daily need and build it completely on their own. In this blog, we'll explore three fascinating projects that utilize ePaper displays.

Weather Display

Have you ever regretted your outfit choice because it was too warm or too cold? This innovative project helps to solve that problem. By creating a weather display that uses pictures to show the weather throughout the day, it provides a clear and intuitive way to understand the forecast.

Imagine waking up in the morning and glancing at this display to see a landscape that changes with the weather. If the temperature is rising, the ground in the display will rise too, giving you a visual cue to dress lighter. If the wind is blowing from the north, the trees will lean in that direction, helping you understand the wind's impact on your day. And if there's rain or snow in the forecast, you'll see animations of raindrops or snowflakes, making it easy to prepare for the day ahead. Isn’t that neat?

Word of the Day Calendar

Do you enjoy daily calendars but dislike the waste of paper? Or perhaps you're trying to learn a new language along with your busy schedule? This project uses a small ePaper display and a light switch plate as a frame to create this word-of-the-day calendar. It shows not only the word but also the date and time.

Originally designed to help learn French, this calendar can be customized to display any language or content you prefer. It's an eco-friendly and educational tool that fits seamlessly into your daily routine.

Whether you're learning a new language, enhancing your vocabulary, or simply enjoying the novelty of a new word each day, this project offers a delightful and sustainable way to do so.

Flower Paintings

Our last project uses a 7-inch E Ink display and an AI program to create unique flower paintings. All the hardware fits neatly inside the picture frame, eliminating the clutter of wires.

The AI image generation occurs locally, so there's no need for Wi-Fi. It takes about half an hour for the AI to create a new image, but only 30 seconds to update the display. You can program the AI to create any type of image you desire. Plus, since it's an E Ink display, the image remains visible even if the power is disconnected.

These projects showcase the versatility and creativity that E Ink technology can bring to everyday life. Each project offers a unique way to integrate technology into your daily routine, making life a little more interesting and enjoyable.
